After teaching for several hours and in order to elucidate his point clearly from the opinions of the students, the professor asked, "What is the greatest gift ever in life? And I need reasons for your answers. Many of the students were enticed by this questions, and they decided to give their diverse answers to the question. Some said the greatest gift ever on earth is love; some said happiness; some said wealth; some said honour; some said greatness; some considered also long life and good health; some said equality; some said education and knowledge; and there were diverse answers to the question with diverse reasons to back the answers up.
"Is there no other answer to this question?" The professor asked.
"I have something to say sir, but it will take quite our time. Hence, I need your permission to use this time or I remain mute," Thomas said.
"Granted," the professor said.
"Thank you sir." Thomas cleared his throat and he began, "Sir, the greatest gift ever is freedom."
"Reasons son."
"I congratulate those that possess this gift. For to have a fulfilled life, all we need is freedom. Freedom from self and the darkness of the heart. I want you all to ask yourselves this question, "am I free?" Though, literally, we are free to enjoy our rights as citizens of the state, but that's not the freedom I am talking about. The freedom I am talking about is the freedom of the heart from darkness. You might see yourself as a good guy, and people might recognise this fact, but deep down in your heart you are not free: freedom from darkness and condemnation. Of course, nothing might seem wrong with your life, but if you are to scrutinise your life from the angle I am coming from, you might discover that you are swimming in the ocean of darkness.
The contents of your heart is who you are. What your heart feeds on is what motivates the body to act. Let your heart feed on the light and you will have freedom, but when your heart feeds on darkness, you will gradually become a slave. You know what comes up in your heart on daily basis, is that which comes up the fruit of light or the fruits of darkness? When there is constant exposure of the heart to darkness, the heart will continue to continue to grow in darkness until it is lost. When this happens, the victim jettisons any grain of truth. When the heart is in darkness, the victim is enslaved to so many things. The darkness of the heart will eventually manifest in actions and in words. That is why we need freedom from the darkness of the heart to live a fulfilled heart.
What Makes The Heart Of Men Dark And What Are The Causes
We all want the good out of our lives. Our day by day thoughts, actions, and behaviour is not beyond the jurisdiction of happiness and satisfaction. It's time we tell ourselves the truth... we all want happiness, satisfaction, and self fulfilment. Happiness, satisfaction, and self fulfilment in their essences are not in any way bad or wrong. But the problem is the various subjective views of what happiness is. Many have misconstrued the term happiness, and they have enslaved themselves to darkness in the name of trying to achieve happiness. In some cases, some subjective views about happiness, are not wrong, but the means to achieving them darkens their heart.
The hearts of men are led to darkness in the course of trying to achieve a desire, ambition, pleasure, dream, in a wrong way. Or in the process of trying to champion a belief or a way of life. What makes a heart dark? A heart is dark when it embarks on a wild pursuit of selfish satisfaction, money, power, position, fame, destructive bodily pleasures, obedience to anti-social or evil beliefs, and other worldly pleasures. A heart is dark is when it sees all these things as the essence of life or the ultimate source of happiness. What actually makes the heart dark is the means of trying to achieve this. When one sees this as the ultimate source of happiness or the essence of life, the person would do anything to get there... trying to achieve happiness. But what do they get? A restless and unfulfilled life, A life where what they seek is like an endless tunnel. And they will become a slave to their ambitions, and they will sought for various wrong means to quell their dissatisfaction What is that you seek to achieve in life, and what are the means you are trying to use to achieve them? What is that terrible situation and how do you intend to solve it? will it be in a way that will darken your heart?
When you are living in sin, your heart is darkened. It will be dark to the extent you will find joy in something that is destructive to your life and soul, and to the lives and souls of people out there. A darkened heart is the heart that says that there is no need for God.
Consequences of a Darkened Heart
The consequence is simple. When you have a darkened heart, you will neither enjoy earth nor heaven and it's promises.
Cure for a Darkened Heart
The cure for a darkened heart is to pledge allegiance to Jesus Christ. To pledge allegiance to him is to surrender your spirit, soul, and body to him forever. You will indicate your willingness to go with him by making a firm decision to part with your old ways of sin, self will and carefree living, in exchange for the brand new life of righteousness and purposeful life. He wants to give you victory and joy. You will also need to part with everyone and everything that is capable to of ruining your relationship with him.
Will you go with this lord? Please, do. It is an opportunity you cannot afford to miss. Rejecting it exposes you to more disappointments, setbacks, frustrations, miseries, and attacks from the arch enemy, Satan, on earth; and it will eventually lead you to spending eternity in his kingdom of darkness, sadness and everlasting torments. In order to expose our hearts to light and destroy darkness, we need to establish a strong and solid relationship with Jesus Christ. You need to admit that you have walked in darkness, repent of your sins, believe that the lord died to save you, and that he can give you eternal life; and then invite him into your life to let his light pervade your heart.
When you establish this relationship with Jesus, he will give you ABUNDANT LIFE - a life of perpetual peace, triumph contentment, and fulfilment. Men fail when you need them most, but Jesus's love is everlasting and constant. When you will do these, you will be free from bondage, sin, and darkness. You will have and live a fulfilled life"
"Is that all?" The professor asked.
"Yeah."
